Dr. Gyanwati Singh, Hon’ble Chairperson, UP Mahila Kalyan Nigam (Fifth from left), with
Mr. Arjun Singh, Executive Director (Seventh from left) addressing the women beneficiaries.
Most of the SHGs have been bank linked and have been extended CCL facilities. The members of SHGs have already initiated income generating activities. The members of SHGs were also oriented and trained for managing micro economic enterprises, prevention and treatment of communicable diseases, resolution of conflicts, management of natural resources, etc. The members are also sensitized for participating in democratic decentralized governance and taking active role in development process.
In spite of its extensive cultivation, bamboo cultivation is riddled with several problems. It suffers from poor management, low productivity, over exploitation of available stock, and gregarious flowering resulting in the death of flower clumps, poor processing and inadequate marketing. These factors pose a real challenge to maintain and develop bamboo for ecological, economic and livelihood security. Systematic management of bamboo forests and the plantations outside forest areas with technological support in terms of high quality planting material and silvicultural practices is the need of the hour. Areas which are depleted or degraded can be replanted with new bamboo species. Recognizing the potential of bamboo and the fact that it has been subjected to neglect, the ‘National Mission on Bamboo Technology and Trade Development' has formulated an action plan to upgrade the bamboo economy by according bamboo development a strategic role in rural development, poverty alleviation and bamboo-based handicrafts and industrial development.
Against this backdrop, the organization ‘Solidarity of the Nation Society' (SNS), successfully promoted bamboo technology in the highly degraded, flood-prone and socio-economically backward area of Kaiserganj Development Block of Bahraich District of U.P., with the assistance of CAPART, Govt. of India, Delhi . Under the project, a small survey was conducted to identify the beneficiaries and a micro-action plan was formulated. About 200 farmers were benefited from the awareness generation programme regarding the cultivation, harvesting, resource use and making of bamboo-based handicrafts. Almost 200 acres of land was brought under bamboo cultivation within the geographical area that was under the PACS programme supported by DFID, British Government.

It is expected that about 10000 populations will be benefited from the project intervention.

The project is targetted to female sex workers(FSW), men having sex with men(MSM) intravenous drug users (IDUs). The project is supported by UPSACS in collaboration with NACO.
